Visvesvaraya College of Engineering has many buyers

Visvesvaraya College of Engineering has many buyers

From a long time Visvesvaraya College of Engineering has been under the aegis of Bangalore University. But now, the college has become a part of a tussle after the trifurcation of the university in 2018. The new Bengaluru Central University (BCU) is in the front of the row to add Visvesvaraya College of Engineering to its list of affiliated colleges. At the same time, the top officials from the parent university BU are claiming the college to be under BU as the college still carries the university’s (BU) name. And now the battle has become a triangular contest with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). VTU holds authority over engineering education in Karnataka. VTU has also requested Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) to add Visvesvaraya College of Engineering to its list of 201 affiliated colleges. With a three-way tussle, the issue will be addressed by a special committee. The special committee has been formed by the KSHEC and is headed by the former Karnataka Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath. However, BCU continues to stake its claim over the engineering college and has already requested the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to give the university administrative power over the admissions for this year. According to BCU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. S. Japhet, UVCE belongs to BCU as per the Gazette in accordance with the Karnataka State Universities Act (2000). He also confirmed that the letter has already been sent to the KEA to allow BCU administrative powers over the admissions in UVCE and the official of the BCU are now awaiting a reply from the authorities from the KEA. “We have visualised a complete roadmap for UVCE in order to make it a centre of excellence in engineering and engineering sciences including possibilities of management studies, humanities and philosophy. UVCE will grow into becoming a centre of cutting-edge research which addresses issues faced by Bengaluru city and Bengalurans,” Prof. Japhet said.
