DU admissions 2018 | Some DU colleges hike fee in the name of maintenance and hostel costs

As Delhi University has started the admission process for 2018, some colleges have increased their annual fees citing maintenance (general and hostel) as the reason. Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College has increased its fees by INR 4000. Humanities fee has gone up from INR 11,460 to 15,610. “There is a marginal increase of Rs 4,000, as the annual maintenance fee of the new campus comes up to Rs 3-Rs 4 crore. But for the fee we are taking, we are also giving a free scholarship of Rs 10,000 to needy students,” said SK Garg, DDU principal. Indraprastha College has also hiked its fees as all the 92 rooms in the hostel have been made air-conditioned, told principal Babli Moitra Saraf. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College has also raised its fee by INR 4000. Dyal Singh college had increased its fee last year. The staff council has asked the college to roll back its decision to increase the fee as it was done without the approval from the governing body’s nod. Principal IS Bakshi said the matter is on the governing bodyʼs agenda: “The rule is, once the fee hike was decided by the chairman, it has to be approved by the governing body. I have placed it on the agenda. If rethinking needs to be done, we will decide then.”
