NTA approved holding JEE Mains and NEET exams bi-annually

National Testing Agency (NTA) has approved to hold the NEET and JEE Mains exam twice a year as this will give candidates adequate opportunity to fight the competition. The formation of NTA was approved by the Union Cabinet on November 10, 2017, which is 10 months after the proposal. On February 1, 2018, Arun Jaitely proposed that NTA will act as an autonomous and self-sustained organization which will be in charge of conducting the exams for the higher education institutions. After the approval, NTA was granted INR 25 crore to start its operations and from thereon, the organization will be self-sustained. 'The NTA would initially conduct those entrance examinations which are currently being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The examinations will be conducted in online mode twice a year,' said Minister of State (HRD), Dr. Satya Pal Singh. He added ‘in order to serve the requirements of the rural students, NTA would locate the centres at sub-district/district level and as far as possible would provide hands-on training to the students’. Almost 40 lakh students will be benefited by the NTA who appear for various competitive exams every year.
