‘Study in India’| A program to attract foreign students to the nation



In a bid to lure more foreign national students on the land for studies, the Union Government launched a program. Under the program, the government projected 160 universities including the IITs and IIMs which are considered as ideal destination for higher studies in the nation. The program is named as ‘Study in India’ and is along the lines of the programs launched by the Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Canada. The main aim of the program is to boost the share of international students, which will help the nation in improving its global reputation in the field of education. At present there is only 10 to 15 provision for the supernumerary seats for the foreign students in the higher education institutes and this provision is hardly underutilized in the most of the education institutes. Now, with ‘Study in India’ program the government aims to promote India as a top education destination and will spend INR 150 crores in the next two years. Through the program, the government will target the students from Asia and Africa, including Nepal, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Thailand, Malaysia, Egypt, Kuwait, Iran, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Rwanda, among others.
