After the recent incident of the CBSE question paper leak on the WhatsApp, the free messenger app is in news again for spreading the false rumors of Delhi about to be hit by a massive earthquake. According to the rumors on the app, a warning about a massive earthquake is declared by none other than the NASA. Below is the so called official message from the NASA which is circulating on the messenger: According to NASA, the biggest earthquake will hit Delhi soon. The Rector Scale is 9.1 or may be 9.2.Date has not cleared yet but it may occur in Between 7th of April to 15th April.Loss of life has declared in Lacs.The Centre of This Biggest rector scale earthquake would be Gurugram.This is the 2nd time in World History that huge loss of life and property has declared by NASA.This is biggest Earthquake may occure in Delhi NCR.Spread to all your relatives or friends who stay in Delhi NCR.This earthquake will be the largest as it covers the areas like In India ( Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, J&K to Tamilnadu, Rajasthan to Bihar.In Pakistan Rector Scale would be 4-4.2 maximum.If possible move at least for a week from Delhi NCR.Govt will take action very soon on This to save life of People. Think again, an organization pioneer in Rocket science cannot differentiate between present simple and future simple tense.Some of the errors in the message are marked in the red. First of all NASA did not issue any warning as it is the job of United States Geological Survey not NASA. And USGS explains on its website: Neither the USGS nor any other scientists have ever predicted a major earthquake. We do not know how, and we do not expect to know how any time in the foreseeable future. An earthquake prediction must define 3 elements: 1)the date and time 2)the location and 3)the magnitude. If you are still not convinced then here’s more technical proof that the domain does not belong to NASA and the message is false and hoax: The website NASA alert does not exist and opening it leads to another website-- www.alertsondemand.com and this doesn’t open either. No doubt that we are living in a world of technological advancements but we are still far from predicting the earthquakes which may or may not occur in future. As of now, it is not clear where this hoax originated from but it itself contains ample numbers of proofs that the message was not issued by the NASA. Delhi has a population of more than 26 million people and evacuating this many people would be too much for a practice drill.
